The first annual Major League Quidditch Championship Weekend will take place in Toledo, Ohio on August 22 and 23.

The league will be partnering with Destination Toledo to put on the two-day event.

“We are very excited to work with Alex Scheer and Major League Quidditch,” said Julie Bolfa, Convention Sales Manager at Destination Toledo. “Our office gathered hotel proposals, found a venue (CYO Athletic Complex) and we will also provide visitor packets for the attendees.  Our office loves bringing new events to Toledo.”

The city will provide four, full-sized soccer fields on Saturday and Sunday and discounted hotel packages for participants and spectators. There will also be welcome bags for every participant and plenty of non-tournament activities that can be arranged through Destination Toledo.  BSCN, the local sports broadcast network, has expressed interest in televising the event.

“Working with Toledo has been an incredibly smooth experience, and I am very excited to be partnering with Destination Toledo,”  MLQ Events Director Alex Scheer said. “They have provided us with a variety of hotels to choose from, keeping in mind that most of our participants are still college students with minimal income. They understand our desire to hold a quality event and are willing to do anything they can to make this weekend as successful as possible.”

The weekend will consist of two tournaments, the first being the league finals tournament that will take place Saturday, Aug. 22. It will feature the eight inaugural teams battling it out for the title of the first ever MLQ Champion. Teams will enter a single-elimination bracket with seeding determined by their performances during the regular season, which runs June 1 to July 31. The night will conclude with an afterparty, with details still to come.

Sunday, Aug. 23 will feature a fantasy tournament and a MLQ all-star game. Registration will be $20 a participant. Cost includes registration for the fantasy tournament, a SAVAGE apparel jersey in your team color and a ticket to the championship tournament. The All-Star Game will feature the 21 top players from each division battling it out for divisional pride, with the rosters chosen by the fans.

“We are incredibly excited with the way the MLQ Championship Weekend has come together,” said MLQ Commission Co-Chair Ethan Sturm. “Toledo has been incredible every step of the way and has allowed us to create a weekend experience that will be amazing for everyone, from our players to our fans to the extended quidditch community. It will be the perfect conclusion to our inaugural season.”
